This is one of the biggest problems I see when I meet with my clients. It can be a difficult decision to make and very overwhelming for most. There is thousands of color to pick from. So before you get started ask yourself these 5 questions.
- How the color makes you feel. (Calm, Happy, Relaxed )
- Do you like these colors or are you drawn to them because they’re new and trendy?
- Do they fit the style and purpose of your room?
- Can you live with them for a long time?
- What’s your style? Traditional, Country, Coastal Living, Modern…….
Before you select a color first take a look at fabrics, curtains, paintings, and furniture that you plan on using in the room for inspiration. Select a couple of colors you like.
Don’t make the mistake of painting your walls and then trying to find accessories and furniture to match later. It’s much easier to color-match paint from your fabric than run all over town looking for drapes and accessories to match your walls. Most paint stores can color-match your accessories.
Next, paint the colors you plan on using on a sample board so you can move them around the room. The paint sample you get at the paint store is too small and will not give you a clear picture of what it will look like when the entire room is painted.
Hang the sample board on the east and west walls of your room so you can see how it will look in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Paint colors had a tendency to look different during different times of the day.
Finally, if you’re still not sure, hire a professional artist or a color specialist from your local paint store to help you. They work with color every day and can save you a lot of time and frustration.
