I’ll bet you never thought you could paint velvet fabric with chalk paint.
Wait until you see this gorgeous headboard I transformed.
I’ll show you my secret trick and give you the complete supply list and video tutorial.
Is this crazy or what? My friend gave me this headboard that was his grandfather’s.
In fact, from what he told me it was close to 100 years old. It had the original yellow velvet fabric on it.
It was in great condition, but I didn’t like the color, so I decided to give it a facelift and bring it into the 20th century.
Like I mentioned this headboard was very old and probably hasn’t been cleaned in a while so the first thing I did was clean it with Krud Kutter and a toothbrush. This stuff will clean just about anything.
As you can see there was a tiny bit of damage to the wood, so I fixed it was a bit of wood filler.
The first thing I did was make my own chalk paint. I use a product I call magic powder that I mix into the paint. Go here to learn how.
Then I mix one cup of paint to one cup fabric medium to 4 cups of paint.
Using a round brush I start applying it to the fabric. Cover it completely.
Learn how to make your own chalk paint
Let it dry overnight.
Using your sanding block sand, it in the direction of the velvet to soften it up. Then paint a second coat. Let it dry and sand it again.
Paint the frame with chalk paint. You can use the same color or mix a new color. It’s totally up to you.
Use the same paint and apply a second coat of chalk paint.
Add the rhinestones with a dab of jewel glue. and now you have a beautiful headboard.
Check this out. A bed fit for a queen. I can’t tell you how many people have oooed and awed over this bed.
Here’s a video walking you through all the steps. I want to apologize for the poor audio. I had the air conditioning on and didn’t realize what it sounded like until I was done. Hope you enjoy it anyway.
