It all started with a 10-year-old boy (Kai) with Cerebral Palsy and Autism who loves boats and the water. A special needs child gets a special room makeover and we get to make another child smile.
A local painting contractor (Dennis) with “On The Roll Painting” volunteered to paint the base coat in white, and Dawn another local volunteer worked diligently measuring each horizontal stripe from ceiling to floor around the room. Once the taping was finished, we painted the stripes gray. (Here’s a previous post about how to paint perfect stripes!)
Our local “Michael Angelo”, aka Jodi Lee, with “Jodi Lee Designs,” created an amazing blue and gray compass on the ceiling for Kai to look at while lying in his bed.
The creative juices continue to flow through Ray from “New Life Creative Painting.” Ray designed an anchor surrounded by a scripture from the Bible. The blessings continue to flow as the artists give of their time and talent to touch the lives of children with special needs in our community.
I found an old dresser and nightstand at a thrift store for $15. I transformed the dresser into this stunning new one with chalk paint. Here’s how you can make your own chalk paint and save a lot of money.
I bought a used lamp at Goodwill for $10 and turned it into a nautical lamp. I wrapped in rope and spray painted blue. You can get the instructions to make your own here.
I transformed an old TV tray into a darling little side table. The step-by-step tutorial is here.
A couple of inexpensive accessories give the space a real beachy, coastal feel.
It goes without saying…. A little paint and a little imagination goes a long way. To find inspiration for your own nautical bedroom, just look through Pinterest and magazines for inspirational ideas. (Hint: I even have my own Coastal Board on Pinterest.)
This entire room makeover was created for under $500
