When I first started blogging three years ago, I didn’t even know what a blog was much less about how to start one. But, over time it became easier and easier. I love blogging and sharing my knowledge and the projects I’m working on.

If you have never blogged before, you probably have all the same questions I had:

• How do I get started?
• What do I say?
• What do I blog about?

I believe we tend to overthink things and make them more complicated than they really are. Let me help you simplify it and get you started.

I started out sharing my faux finishing work and DIY projects. Over time I started sharing business strategies because people who were following me were asking me how I was growing my business. I’ve learned to give people what they are asking for.

So, how do you get started? Here are three simple steps to get you started.

Domain Name

If you haven’t bought your domain name, this is a must. Go to GoDaddy.com and make sure your business name is available.
If it is, buy it. I would suggest at least two years. You have to have the domain name to build your website.

Website

In this day and age, you must have a website for people to find you. You don’t have to have a fancy-dancy website nor spend a lot of money to get started. There are many places you can research to build a website for very little money or free. Just google “Build your own website.” There are many free ones to choose from like Weebly and Wix.

It takes a little bit of work, but it’s easy and worth the effort. If you buy your domain name from Godaddy, you can build a website through them. If that scares you, then you can always hire a web designer to help you.

What to Write About

The best advice I can give you is to write about things that you know about, things like the products you use, the services you offer, family, faith, etc.

If you’re passionate about what you do, then sharing it with others will make blogging a breeze.
