Paying It Forward

One of the greatest gifts you can give a child with special needs is your time and talent. If you would have asked me 6 months ago what Prader-Willi syndrome was, I honestly would not have known. In fact I didn’t know what any special needs syndrome was a year ago until God leads me on this new journey…….Wait until you see the video of the reveal, it will definitely tug at your heartstrings.

Paint For Children

For over a year I prayed and asked God “What is my purpose?” “What am I here for?” “What is it you want me to do?” I just felt like there had to be more to life than just going to work everyday and coming home.

He didn’t answer me right away, but when he did, His answer was simple “Use your talent to glorify My name” Let me just tell you, when you ask God to reveal your purpose, be ready for the answer, be obedient and watch how He puts the right people in your life at the right time. He will move mountains!

That’s how “Paint For Children” nonprofit organization was born. Local artists volunteer their time and talent to paint rooms for children with special needs.

All this would not be possible without our volunteers/Artist. Ray Mayo painted the Ninja Turtle surfing, Regina Dunlop painted the rainbow and Debby Landry painted the dresser and shelves. I am so blessed to have such wonderful people with serving hearts in my life.

Our first project was designed for Cameron Wallace,  a 13 year old boy with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS).  PWS is a genetic disorder that affects appetite, growth, metabolism, cognitive function, behavior, muscle tone and temperature and pain regulation.  People with PWS never have the sensation of feeling full and have an insatiable appetite.

Wallace Family

Cameron requires constant and life long supervision in a controlled environment to keep him safe from over eating.  He has the most amazing family, that loves and cares for him with joyful hearts.

The inspiration came from the surfboard hanging on his wall. We decided to take everything he loves and incorporate it into a fun and colorful room. He loves Ninja Turtles and rainbows and his favorite color is red so what else but a Ninja Turtle surfing the wave and a big bright rainbow over his bed. Cameron’s parent where hands-on through the entire transformation. The Tiki Hut was designed and made by this father, Jeff, and his Mom Michelle helped paint and distress the dresser to give it a beach feel.
