I’m a huge fan of decorative painted ceilings. I think if it’s painted in the right color and design it can turn your room into a showpiece.
Many people think painting a ceiling makes the room look small and closed in, but this is a misconception; it can also make it look and feel longer and wider, not to mention give it character. More and more interior decorators are incorporating painted ceiling in their designs, especially in bedrooms and bathrooms.
I can’t tell you how many homes I’ve been in that have beautiful architectural ceilings and they left them white. Most of the time it’s because they just don’t know what to do with them and need some ideas and inspiration. That’s why interior decorators and designers hire Faux finishers and artists to work their magic.

I just love this bedroom. This pink ceiling created by Artistic Designs blankets the bedroom and just pops everything else in the room. What an elegant and fun room for a little girl.
Take a look at these before and after pictures. What one would you rather have on your ceiling?
This photo illustrates a great example of why you should paint your ceilings. Look at how it draws your eye up and how the color on the ceiling and molding adds depth.
This was created in a bathroom with a blue Luster Stone finish to resemble a sky-like feel.
Although this ceiling was painted green it didn’t do anything for the room. The client wanted clouds painted on the ceiling. So we decided to continue the sky around the knee wall and add balusters to complete the look of the old world décor below.
This is one of my favorite finishes. It always looks amazing! Look at the beautiful stencil design created over Champaign Luster Stone that frames out the chandelier.
How about this ceiling for a little old-world charm! Two Old world maps were applied to a textured finish to complement the glazed walls in a business office.
I have heard people say that faux finishing is outdated and is for people that have that old-world décor in their homes. That’s just another misconception. There are so many stunning finishes that are used in contemporary and modern-styled homes. Take a look at this ceiling that proudly hovers’ over a modern dining room table.
Painting your ceilings can be a lot of fun and create a lasting impression when your friends and family come to visit. So have a little fun and experiment with some colors and design ideas. I have done so many ceilings in my 15 years in business that it would take me all day to post them.
