Here’s a formula you can use to price handmade items for profit:
(Materials + Time + Overhead) x Profit Margin = Selling Price
For example, let’s say you made a beautiful painted sign:
- Materials: $10
- Time: 2 hours at $20/hour = $40
- Overhead: $5
- Your base cost is $55. Now, multiply that by your desired profit margin, say 2.5, and your selling price comes out to $137.50. Boom! A fair price that pays you what you deserve.
