It’s a new year, and the slate is clean. Time to reflect, set goals, and focus on the year ahead. The only way you can do this is to be in a comfortable, stress-free space where you can go anytime you need to relax, let go, solve a problem, achieve a goal, find inspiration, or simply read a book.
This doesn’t have to be a complete room. It can be a corner of a room, a favorite chair with a lamp and table next to it, or even some pillows on the floor in front of the fireplace. Wherever it is, make sure it’s comfortable and a place where YOU want to retreat.
- Make sure the space is clutter-free
Nothing is more stressful than mess and clutter. De-clutter and tidy up your space so it’s inviting and stress-free. Keep it simple with a place to sit, some good low lighting, a table (for books or tea), and a blanket or throw. Remind family members that this is your special place to reflect and re-energize.
- Add inspiration to your space
Whether it’s your favorite mantra, a photograph, or a special book… put it in the space! These reminders will encourage you to stay focused and relax while in your sanctuary. Personalize it so it feels like your very own special space.
- Sprinkle in some coziness
Nothing is more calming and serene than nature. Bring the outdoors in with fresh flowers, green leafy plants, twigs from the yard, or a bowl of fresh fruit. Even a pile of pretty rocks will do the trick. Keep these seasonal, so the space is always evolving. While you’re at it, place your favorite coffee mug or tea cup within reach. You never know when you might need a sip!
- Add light and fragrance
You know what they say about lighting! It’s probably the most important element in any space. Keep it low, whether it’s a lamp or candles that enhance the space. The sanctuary should be well-lit when writing or reading, but calming and serene, as well. Add your favorite fragrance, whether it be a scented candle or potpourri. The smell will remind you to spend time in your sanctuary while helping you eliminate stress and re-focus.
Don’t you deserve a special sanctuary of your very own?
